AgeBetter with Affordable Senior Housing
The need for senior housing in the Madison area is two-fold, emphasizing the ideals of wellness and affordability. The burgeoning number of baby boomers, by itself, requires a hard look at housing options, and AgeBetter, Inc., is broadening the conversation to include quality of life.
Partnering with Gorman & Company in 2019, we have since proposed building a village-like community of one- and two-bedroom rental units, the majority of which would have varying rental rates for those who qualify for affordable housing. This village-like model encourages interaction and provides opportunities for residents to remain social, active, healthy, and independent in their own apartments.
We applied for and did not receive WHEDA tax credit awards that would enable us to pursue our projects. We do, however, remain committed to the concept of senior affordable housing and are exploring solutions to assist seniors in this way. Programming and services offered by our flagship program, SAIL—Sharing Active Independent Lives, continue to be a focus of AgeBetter to help ensure older adults can age-in-place and remain safe, healthy, and connected. We continue to work towards our goal of creating a unique senior affordable housing that integrates the SAIL model.
